QUETTA/TAFTAN: Iranian troops fired at least 11 mortar shells into bordering town near Panjgur district in Balochistan, causing no casualty, in a new border violation act on Wednesday.
Islamabad strongly protested at the diplomatic level against Tehran’s cross-border aggression and continues violation by shelling into its territory.
“The shells landed in an open fray of bordering town Chedgi, area of Panjgur district, without causing any casualty but the huge bangs sparked fear among the people living in bordering towns,” Panjgur Deputy Commissioner Jabbar Baloch said.
The border violation issue would be raised in the upcoming flag meeting between Pakistan and Iranian border guards, which is due after two days, he added.
Iran occasionally fires mortar shells into bordering areas in what officials term “clear border violations”. However, on the other side, Tehran has categorically said it would chase down smugglers and terrorists causing disturbance in its country.
Meanwhile, Iranian border authorities opened Zero Point along the Pak-Iran border on Wednesday. The gate was closed for Muharramul Haram vacations. After the gate was reopened, business activities restored across the border.
It is pertinent to mention here that all economic activities of Chaghai and Taftan are directly related to Friendship Gate along the Pak-Iran border.
