The National A
ccountability Bureau has decided to file an appeal agai
nst the acquittal of Nawaz Sharif in the Flagship corruption reference.
The decision was taken in a meeting held under NAB chairman Javed Iqbal after the a
ccountability court announced its verdict on Monday.
The NAB chairman directed the legal team at the bureau to file an appeal after getting certified authentic copies of the judgment.
Following the former prime minister’s sentence ear
lier in the day, the NAB team took Nawaz Sharif to Adiala jail, from where he
will be taken t
o Kot Lakhpat jail on Tuesday morning.
In a short verdict announced today, the court said there was concrete evidence agai
nst the former premier in the Al-Azizia reference, and that he was unable to provide a money trail in the case. There was not enough evidence to convict Nawaz in the Flagship reference, thus he has been acquitted, the decision read.
